The CQ DX Marathon is a year-long DX hunt where operators try to work as many countries and zones as possible during a calendar year. IZ2AMW has won the Italy category three times.

A selection of QSL cards received over the years — each one a memory of a contact made, a new entity confirmed, an island worked.

I have been active in amateur radio since the late 1970s, having started as a young operator under the callsign IW2CW. From late-night CW sessions as a teenager to DX and IOTA operations worldwide, amateur radio has always been a constant part of my life.
In 1989, I participated in the project of the first Italian amateur satellite, ITAMSAT (IO-26) — an important milestone for Italian ham radio — successfully launched in 1993.
My main operating interests are 6 meters, the low bands, and IOTA chasing, with a strong focus on DX operations. Currently holding DXCC 330 confirmed, 9-Band 5BDXCC on 80/40/30/20/17/15/12/10/6m, DXCC Challenge 2551 and 856 IOTA groups confirmed worldwide.
Three-time winner of the CQ DX Marathon Italy category (2010, 2012, 2024). Also hold the US Extra Class license under the callsign W6AMW, having passed the FCC examinations.
Over the years I have operated from many locations worldwide: T5II, TI5/IZ2AMW, EA6, IS0, 9M6/IZ2AMW from North Borneo, SV6/IZ2AMW from Greek islands (Kefallonia, Paxos — EU-052), and regularly from Giudecca Island Venice as IZ2AMW/3 (EU-131).
Alongside my on-air activity, I managed the acquisition of UltraBeam by WiMo and became the exclusive dealer for Italy. I am the founder of AntennaHub, dedicated to supplying antennas to the amateur radio community. I have also served in several national roles within A.R.I., including Vice President, and in 2025 was appointed liquidator of EdiRadio S.r.l.
